Themes and Compatibility

1 min read

Mashup is designed to publish into any Shopify theme that supports modern theme architecture — that is, any Online Store 2.0 theme. This includes every official Shopify-built theme released after September 2021, and the vast majority of third-party themes built in the last few years.

If you are on an older theme that is not OS 2.0, Mashup's published pages may not render correctly. The compatibility check at publish time will warn you. We strongly recommend migrating to an OS 2.0 theme — Shopify provides several free options under Online Store → Themes → Theme library.

Theme Sections

When you publish, Mashup uploads any sections, snippets, and blocks the page needs to your theme. These are small Liquid files that live in sections/ and snippets/ in your theme. They are clearly named (every Mashup-managed file starts with mashup-) and do not interfere with your theme's existing files.

App Embeds

Some Mashup features — bundles, sticky bars, announcement tickers — are implemented as Shopify theme app embeds. You enable them under Theme customization → App embeds in your Shopify admin. App embeds do not require Mashup to write any files to your theme.

Theme Updates

When your theme provider releases an update, you can apply it without breaking your Mashup pages — Mashup's files live alongside your theme files, not inside them, so a theme update does not overwrite Mashup-managed content. After the update, open any Mashup page once to make sure it still renders correctly. If anything is off, re-publishing from Mashup re-uploads the latest version of every section.
